I have been privileged to know Glenys Livingstone for many years, having first met her in Berkeley California in 1977. Since then I have been aware of the remarkable journey she has made both spiritually and academically. It has been a journey of integrity, insight and courage. Her re-invention of Earth-based Goddess Religion is both convincing and beautiful, and manifests an ability to connect within many disciplines and traditions. The richness of Celtic spirituality is there through the work of Caitlin and John Matthews, as are the cosmological insights of Thomas Berry and Brian Swimme, and the Indian yogic tradition. She writes beautifully of the intrinsic connection and unity within each person and universe. Progressively, religious searchers are finding that the lived experience of Earth and her seasonal journey must be the base and foundation of any journey of the spirit, no matter what its symbolic or cultural contours. Glenys quotes Brian Swimme who writes that “to become fully mature and human persons, we must bring to life within ourselves the dynamics that fashioned the cosmos” (p.22). In PaGaian Cosmology Glenys shows us how. Glenys’ language is fulsome and lucid, and often poetic in the transmission of a complex thought process. The soundly based spirituality embodied in the ritual events and scripts provides a rich resource for Gaian Ritual. PaGaian Cosmology is a book to be studied, pondered, befriended and enjoyed.
