PaGaian Cosmology Lammas/Late Summer Meditation

This meditation was created as part of the whole Wheel of PaGaian Cosmology Meditations in 2015, which were released as a set of CDs, and are still available in that format, as well as digitally. Here now I offer this Lammas/Late Summer meditation freely.

There are two parts: the first is a brief preparation (2:24mins) and the the other is the meditation (10:15mins). I advise allowing about 25 minutes of undisturbed time for this: that would include about 14 minutes of reflecting and writing time within it, and 5 mins of a circle dance at the end, if you chose. You may like more time, and there are suggested pauses on the audio to allow for that.

The preparation goes like this:

Suggestion for altar cloth: black – perhaps a shiny fabric, and/or with texture of some kind … a beautiful black to remind you of the Beauty of the Dark. Perhaps add an Autumn coloured ribbon or spun yarn thread of some kind, and/or black ribbon. Lammas is the first Harvest Moment after the Fullness of Summer … it celebrates the Harvest of Life, the Sacred Consuming: it about the passing of Life, the passing of all things. The Old One takes us Home.

Props needed: frankincense (stick is fine), a small bowl of ash, a small bowl of grain, a gingerbread/bread figure – perhaps in a basket lined with black fabric, a “cauldron”/pot … could be a clay garden pot.

  3. The dance that may be done is based on one that I learnt from Jean Houston, and I name it the “Harvest Dance”: form a circle holding hands, take three steps to the right, pause, then three more steps to the right, pause and sway LRL. Take three more steps to the right, pause, take two steps into centre with right foot each step, two steps back out with left foot each step, the sway RL. Add gathering motions with joined hands with the steps into the centre.
